I decided 2/3 the way through I wasn't happy with colours chosen (CK inspired Stylecraft) and colour arrangement. Too late, soldiered on. Almost there and will give this particular blanket with love and a Huge amount of Relief to see the back of it.
I have also been guilty of being a purist as only using yarn from the same range but now.......you have smashed those rules for me and I am excited to move forward and make another large blanket (I have made many 'baby' ones and cushion covers lol)
Susan x
Ps I am commenting as susieis but really I am Dollyclothespeg62Sandra (Cherry Heart)https://www.blogger.com/profile/05632044137338148569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4697593650732548152.post-54226993922399202932015-03-03T20:08:47.270+00:002015-03-03T20:08:47.270+00:00This is kind of how I work, but the hex-a-long is ...This is kind of how I work, but the hex-a-long is my first join-as-you-go blanket. With all of my squares done before hand, i would take a few days to lay them all out. I started making my own Giant Grann...This is great! I started making my own Giant Granny Patches a few months ago and I am now halfway. For the colors, this is what I decided: I also replaced the Hayfield/Sirdar Teal with Stylecraft Special DK Denim (as you suggest!), I use Stylecraft Special DK Sunshine (#1114) instead of the Rowan Goldilocks (Sunshine is little brighter, but it stands out really
nicely). Since I was able to order the Lawn Green and the Mint, I didn’t have to replace them. I am working the colors at random… but I also use your rule of diagonal lines and I make sure that the colors appear an equal number of times. And some colors really look well next to each other, so I often combine them (for example, Copper and Claret).
It is a joy to work on this blanket!Sandra (Cherry Heart)https://www.blogger.com/profile/05632044137338148569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4697593650732548152.post-65056951161894619142015-03-03T12:27:11.008+00:002015-03-03T12:27:11.008+00:00Congratulations for this beautiful blanket! I agree that we probably all follow similar guidelines without really knowing it, but it's v helpful to have it written down so clearly. Thank you for the link to the new Stylecraft colours too, I can't wait to see them in real life can you? :-) Bestest wishes, Jo xxxSandra (Cherry Heart)https://www.blogger.com/profile/05632044137338148569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4697593650732548152.post-46912552286622038302015-03-03T11:14:43.825+00:002015-03-03T11:14:43.825+00:00This is an interesting post - I do think it is a s...This is an interesting post - I do think it is a sign of a gifted crocheter to put colours together so well. I'm not naturally gifted in this way - I know the colours I like and like you say, have a shuffle and a play with squares if I'm not sure about a layout but I always admire your colour choices. You have an eye for it and whilst I'm happy to learn from you I'm not sure it's something that I can capture! Any pattern can look beautiful or blah based on colour choice so thanks for trying to explain your practice!!
