Lost: One Plot...

...If found return to me at Cherry Heart.

You know I mentioned a while back that I had a certain little something up my sleeve that crocheters might enjoy?  Well it turns out it might be quite a big something.   Maybe even a huge, massive, bite-off-more-than I-can-chew,  what-have-I-gotten-myself-into something actually.

You might have also noticed that there's a link up on my menu bar at the top there that says 'Crochet Corner' but doesn't actually go anywhere very exciting just yet?

Well the two things are connected.  They are to do with a plan I've been hatching for a good few months now and is sort of top of my To-Do list for this year.  For the last few years, I've set myself a little challenge for the year, a something to focus on and to motivate me.  That's the idea anyway.

In 2011 I started this blog (properly - not much had happened before).  In 2012 I worked on the Pretty Crafty Home Project, a few of you might even remember it if you were around way back then.  In 2013 I wanted to try and get some of my patterns written up and published.  So here we are in 2014 and this year my plan is to work on getting Cherry Heart's Crochet Corner up and running.

'Yes, yes, but what is it?' I hear you cry!

It started out with me wanting to do a few more crochet tutorials.  Maybe a few simple ones to cover the basic stitches.  Then I started thinking, if I had tutorials for quite a few stitches, that would be nice.  It'd be handy too, for people to refer to when using my patterns.

Then I started thinking of topics I could cover to help beginner crocheters out.  The different ways to join a new yarn colour perhaps and what to do with all those ends that are left hanging out of the back of your work.  Then I thought of the questions people sometimes ask me, like how do I make my granny squares and how do I keep them nice and straight?

The more I thought about it, the more and more ideas I had and the more excited I got.  My plans for a few tutorials seem to have turned into a scheme for a brand new spin-off site packed with crochet information, tips, techniques and patterns.  Umm, I think I got a little carried away!

I've made a start though.  I'm working on a Stitch Directory at the moment.  A kind of reference guide to all the crochet stitches is the plan.  A go to place for when you can't remember the difference between a bobble and a popcorn.  It's going quite well but I'm starting to realise just how crazy this 'little' scheme of mine is and wondering why on earth it is I can't ever keep things on a small and manageable scale?

It's quite not ready to reveal to the world just yet and who knows if I've ever be able to fill it with half the things I want to.  But, I've taken the first step.

So, apart from the fact I've obviously lost my mind, what do you think?

  6. I certainly don't think you have lost your mind at all. It's a brilliant idea and also very generous - like a online crochet workshop :0) You are very good at explaining how to do things so this will be a very useful place for people to refer to and I'm sure you will get millions of hits!! Maybe a few knitting tips....??? My aim for this year is to stay sane - each day I'm not carted off to the asylum is an achievement!! Sam xx

  8. Wow!!!! what an amazing idea. Utterly brilliant. As a newbie to crochet a reference to stitches, etc. would be great (and very much appreciated). It's quite a task you've set yourself Sandra, but one which I'm sure will be very much worth the wait. Good luck, and I can't wait!

  10. I think it will be a perfect resource for everyone - there's lots of sewing directories around but not many user friendly crochet ones (that I know of anyway!). I need to set my goals, just can't decide on what they are!!!

  12. I love the idea. And some projects are big, but that doesn't mean they never get finished. I love the idea of a place where I can check back on stitches.

  13. I think it is wonderful. I use to crochet years ago and then turned to knitting. I am now crocheting more than knitting and this would be a great tool

  14. Oh my gosh!! I am a quilter and now teaching myself to sew dresses for my 22 month old granddaughter, but I started crocheting several years ago and I still drool over your creations. I am so darn excited to see that you are going to jump into "Crochet Corner" because its exactly what I need; I can't wait to see how this goes.

  31. I'm laughing as I read this post. I think all of us can identify with the process we go through when we hatch an idea - it grows to mammoth proportions. It must be especially true for creative people. Anyway, I love the idea. As you described the idea you had for the new site, my mind was mentally scrolling through questions I've always wondered even though I've been crocheting for a long time. I'm always interested in how other crocheter's deal with certain things so that I can gauge whether or not I am doing a certain thing the most efficient way.
I already love your blog and visit it at least once a day - can't wait for the new extension.....

  43. Fantastic idea - I bet it will be loads better than what's currently available too (which is patchy, I think).
pLeAsE pLeAsE help me keep my granny squares straight!! they begin twisting after about 5 rounds, and I'd rather not have to turn them (although I will accept this if it's inevitable - sigh)
I'm working on a blanket right now and it's causing quite a bit of consternation!!
Good luck with this, I look forward to reading it :o)
