Baby Bliss

The interesting thing about working on magazine commissions, as I have been lucky enough to do lately, is that you sometimes get asked to work on something that makes you think a little more.

Like this latest one of mine from Knitting and Crochet Magazine.  They asked me to make up a few baby things for them, which isn't too unusual, I've made a few bits for bubbas in my role as 'Best Auntie Ever'.  The thing that made me think a little harder on this one is the fact that the yarn to make the baby things actually comes with the magazine.  So, I had a certain palette and a certain yardage that I needed to work with.  Slightly more challenging, but I don't mind a bit of a test.

So these are the projects I came up with.  A set of bibs, two pairs of booties and a small blanket.

The bibs, as you can see, are crocheted and the booties and blanket are knitted.  The idea is that you could make them for either a boy or a girl and that you get everything you need on the front of the magazine to make any one of the projects inside, including the knitting needles and hook.  There's even a yarn needle included too.  Pretty niffy idea don't you think?

I'd love to give you a link to the magazine, but as it's a brand new magazine I don't think there is much online information as yet.  But, as the yarn come with the magazine, you'd probably want to make sure you got your hands on an actual, rather than virtual, copy of this one.  It's called 'Knitting & Crochet for Baby', it's Issue 1 and was due to be released on 31st January, so keep your eyes peeled next time you're at the newsagents!

  18. Lovely projects, I am a novice but I'd love to make the booties for my boy. I bought the magazine today but I get stuck at 'join the work into a loop'. Do I need round needles for that? Or can I use the needles that come with the mag and afterwards see them together? Thanks!
