Vivacious Kids
I'm here today with a review of a new pattern book from Fyberspates, Vivacious Kids. Which also means a giveaway and fun stuff for you too! (Stay tuned...)
The patterns are by the designers Rachel Coopey and Ella Austin. I've been a fan of Rachel's sock designs for a while now and although I wasn't familiar with Ella's work, I'm glad I got the chance to find it as her Ravelry page is full of eye candy too.
This book is full of great unfussy designs and just right for showing off beautiful hand dyed yarn to the best advantage. The designs are made to work just as well for either boys or girls and I reckon they are the sort of thing you could knit again and again.
I think the best thing about this book though is the fact that you can see the designs on not only boys and girls, but also on a range of different ages. That way you can really get a feel for how the garment will look and fit. They even include extra information about each of the models and the garments worn. Such a useful guide when it comes to selecting the correct size to make for your own child, because children of the same age can vary so much, don't you find?
The book contains a total of seven patterns in a range of sizes designed to cover ages around 2 to 10. There are are also some smaller projects in there too like the 'Jack be Nimble' hat and the 'Tickety-Boo' mittens. You'll also find help with size, gauge, techniques and very useful links to tutorials.
I've got my eye on making one of the 'Swashbuckle Hoodies', it would be great for Little Miss. Although I'll have to get on with it, she'll be ten soon and although she's not big for her age I'd want to get plenty of use out of it if I'm going to hand knit it for her. I must say the patterns have certainly tempted me into trying some of the Fyberspates yarn, not one I've used before but it looks so good in the pictures.
