Some Things...

It's been a while since I've done a regular blog post...

I always post the show notes for my podcast and I shared some crochet tips recently and some new patterns, but an honest to goodness regular ol' blog post?  It's been a few months now.

I did think it was because I didn't really have much to say.  I thought I'd said it all in my podcasts and maybe doing those had used up all that I had to share buut then I started to look through my photos to gather evidence of 'some things' to show what I've been doing lately and here's what I rustled up...

On the crochet front it's been all about my 'Getting Ziggy' shawl.  I've made myself a second shawl using this pattern, except this time I used three colours and I love how different it looks.  (You can see the finished article in this podcast, if you like.)

I was originally spurred on to finally get this off the wish list and into reality when I started my Cherry Heart MAL (Make Along) and I'm so glad I did, I love how it turned out.

I started the MAL back in May and it'll be running for the whole of June, so there is still some time to join in the fun and you can also enter for a chance to win prizes if you want...
You can find all the details of the #CherryHeartMAL here.

Inspired by my 'Sweet' Getting Ziggy I thought I'd go straight into another project that I've had mulling around in my head for an age or two, which is also based on the Getting Ziggy pattern.  This one will be a blanket though.  It's going to be gifted to my niece and she required a 'unicorn' feel to her blanket, so these are the colours we hoped summed up 'essence of unicorn' best...

Essence of Unicorn?

We've had an awful lots of muggy grey days but it's been nice enough for a little outdoor crochet from time to time too, which is something I love to do whenever I can.  If I don't have time for crochet I'll take the laptop out and work outside instead, anything to soak up some vitamin D!

Dog walks are a thing of joy at this time of year.  No having to pile on the layers to go out and no coping with the mud when we come back.  Such a relief!  The sights and sounds have changed so much from a few months ago, the woodland and grasses are reaching their glorious full potential and seem to be bustling with of busy creatures.

Outdoor office ;)

It's also that time of year when on the onslaught of 'end of term' season comes on really strong.  It's always seems to be such a busy time of year, full of extra trips and events for the small people. plays and ceremonies for the parents to attend.  Sports days, school things, Guides things, summer things, there seems to be so much packing into the the diary right now.

As a contrast to all that it's been nice to take a little bit of a break and do some lovely and relaxing things just this past week and luckily for me I got two fab treats.  Firstly my yarny buddy Sam (Betsy Makes) and I went to visit two special friends, Chrissie from Chrissie's Crafts and Jooles from Sew Sweet Violet.  It was so, so good to get a chance to meet up with those lovely ladies again and I had the nicest time.  We could have stayed for ages but of course, home, children and responsibilities called us back all too soon.

Goodies from friends

Crafty Cruising!

I did get to see Sam again though as we'd arranged a little trip along the Ouse on a 'Crafty Cruise'.  Sam had spotted that Sharron of padraigin_handmade (IG) was organising a relaxed little pottle along the river with like minded crafty souls and we jumped at the idea.  So on Saturday we sat for four glorious hours, soaking in our surroundings, with nothing else to do but chatter and craft away.  Our only other task was to pause and enjoy the cream tea that was laid on for us all.  Tough times!

Well, I do have a few other bits I could share, but I shall leave it here and try to come back later this week and chat to you again.

See you soon!

  2. That's a pretty river - where is it? What kind of boat were you in? Thanks for sharing.

    1. It's the Ouse! It runs through Bedfordshire, and other places probably, but we were near Bedford. The boat was a canal boat, or would long boat be the correct term? Although it's a natural river (as far as I know), there were lots of long boats and we went through several locks too.

I agree about the pleasure of dog walks this time of year. I love the light evenings so you can actually appreciate your surrounding because you can actually see it lol. x

    1. Thanks so much! Yes, it was rather lovely I have to say. I've always kind of fancied a long boat holiday, ever since I read one of the Swallows and Amazons book where they did the same thing. Not sure there would be enough entertainment for DD though...

  8. Question: your Outdoor Office tablecloth... did you take plain fabric and edge it with a crocheted border yourself? It's just lovely, and has given me some good ideas!

  11. I love your new Getting Ziggy Shawl so much! I enjoyed it in your last podcast and now I can't stop gazing at the photos in Ravelry! They are my favourite colours - it's what I had at my wedding - aqua with touches of pink. And the drape of that shawl - it's perfect!! x
