Nature's Walk CAL, Part 1

Part 1
Welcome to the official start of the Nature's Walk CAL!
Ooh, that's exciting to type. I know it's felt like a long wait for some of you and so I'm very pleased to be able to share the first part of the blanket pattern with you today. We begin with some nice simple designs, using only basic stitches to get things off to a smooth start.
We will be making a total of 8 squares this week.

For this first part of the pattern, the square design I've chosen is called 'Gates'. It's a nice open block which creates a lovely light square. You'll find the free download for this square using the link below.

The bonus square* for this week is 'Butterfly', which is something I often see flitting around the fields. This design is an exclusive to the yarn packs and will sent out directly by Black Sheep Wools via email. To complete this week's part you will also need to download a copy of the Gates pattern using the link below.
I do hope you enjoy them and I look forward to seeing your squares!

Thank you for this pattern, Sandra. I enjoy your videos so much.
ReplyDeleteI am participating in your Nature's Walk CAL and truly appreciate it. I'm not sure if the pattern is in error or it's probably me. I don't read charts (yet) so I am going by the written directions. Here's my issue...in row 1 you do 4 ch which counts as 1 tr and 1 ch and along the way I am ending up with only one chain in the corner between instead of 2 ch between the 4 tr. It's only happening on the beginning corner of each round....I am on round 3 or 4 now. Anyway, I'm probably not reading the instructions correctly but I have been adding a chain on the beginning 4 ch which count as the first tr and 1 ch....I add another and I end up correctly. It's a lovely square and I hope I am in error but thought I should bring it up in case others are having the same issue. Again, thank you so much for the CAL and as an aside.....I have used your sock pattern for many pairs and still love it!
ReplyDeleteActually I wrote it that way! It’s to make sure that all the corner spaces look nice and even. I find that the slip stitch at the end of the round will tend to pull to the right side of the chain (if you’re right handed) and if there are 5 chains at the start this leaves a bigger gap, whereas using just 4 pulls the stitches in and looks neater.
DeleteIt’s a personal preference I guess and I always make my squares this way, but you’re welcome to do your own thing of course! :)
Oh! Thank you for explaining it! I am not a novice crocheter but obviously I have lots to learn yet!
Deleteje rajoute aussi 5ml et le trou n'est pas grand car je ferme avec la maille coulée sur le 3ème et je repars avec les (ml, j'attends la suite avec impatience, et j'adore!!!! Marie de France
