Calling all Blanketeers! / Weekender Blanket Border Pattern

Hello my friends in blanket making!  And to the rest of you as well of course, but this post today is very geared towards the blanket makers.  Particularly those participating in the 'along', but more on that in a moment.

First of all, I thought I'd share a couple of patten updates with you.

⬡⬢⬡

There is already a whole hexie and half hexie pattern available, but I thought it might be useful to have a little 'Filler' hexie to level the ends of the hexagons too.  For those of you who would prefer your blankets to be nice and squared off.

Then there's the border pattern too.  I settled on a one colour border, with straight edges and little bobbles along the ends.  Just in case anyone is interested in doing the same for their blanket, I've included the pattern for that too...

Special Stitches
jss - joining slip stitch:
A slip stitch made into the chain space of an already completed hexagon to attach it to the hexagon you are currently working on.

4trcl - 4 treble cluster (US 4dccl):
As above but repeat * to* three times, yo and pull through all 5 loops on hook.

htr2tog - 2 half treble crochet together (US hdc2tog):
*yo, insert hook as directed, yo and pull through,* repeat from * to * once more, yo and pull through all 4 loops on hook.

mb - make bobble:
3ch, 4trcl into 3rd ch from hook, ss into 3rd ch from hook

: : FILLER HEXIE : :

Optional
Worked in rows, turn at the end of each row.

JAYG:  These ‘filler’ hexagons are added after the surrounding ‘Whole Hexies’ are in place, so the joining slip stitches are written into the instructions.

Chain 11, make a jss into the first hexie space,  then work back along the chain as follows:

Row 1:  1ch, work 1sc into 3rd ch from jss, 1hdc, 1dc twice, (1dc, jss, jss, 1dc) into next, 1dc twice, 1hdc, 1sc, 1ch, jss, 2ch, ss to bottom of last sc made.

Cut Yarn.

: :   BORDER   : :

This is the border pattern I used!

Worked in rounds.

Round 1:  1ch, work a round of sc stitches as follows:
Along Whole Hexies: 1sc into each st and corner space
Along Half Hexies: 2sc into each end of row dc and 1sc into the centre ch sp
Outer corner chain spaces: 1sc in 1st ch, 1ch, 1sc in second ch,
Inner corners where 2 hexies meet: sc2tog over last dc and 1ch of corner space, sc2tog over 1ch of corner space of next hexie and first dc
To finish: ss to first sc to close round.

Round 2:  3ch, 1dc in each sc along the edges and work corners as follows:
Outer corners: (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) into 1ch sp
Inner corners: dc2tog, with 1st part of dc in last sc of current hexie, skip both sc2tog of the row below, 2nd part of dc in first sc of next hexie
To finish: ss to top of beg 3ch to close round.

Round 3:  3ch [counts as 1hdc, 1ch], (skip 1ch, 1hdc in next, 1ch), repeat stitches in brackets along the edges and work corners as follows:
Outer corners: (1hdc, 2ch, 1hdc) into 2ch sp
Inner corners: hdc2tog, with 1st part of hdc in last dc of current hexie, skip dc2tog of row below, 2nd part of hdc in first dc of next hexie
To finish: ss to 2nd ch of beg 3 ch to close round.

Round 4:  1ch, 1sc in hdc, 1sc in sp along the straight edges then work ends as follows:
Corner space (working from straight edge towards end): (1sc, 1hdc, 1dc) into corner sp
Along blanket ends: 1dc in hdc, 1dc in sp
Outer corner (points): (2dc, mb,1dc) in 2ch sp
Inner corner (dips): work 1hdc into last sp, mb, skip dc2tog of row below, 1hdc into next sp
Corner space (working from end back towards straight edge): (1dc, 1hdc, 1dc) into corner sp
To finish: ss to 1st sc to close the round.

And now, let's get back to the Cherry Heart Blanket Along (#CHBAL)...

It's still not too late to join in, if you haven't already.  We're working on all blankets, old WIP's and new projects, so it's fairly open and you don't need to finish, just show us the progress you've made.  So feel free to just dive in and join us.

Especially because we are now getting to towards the end of the month and it's time to talk about...

⬡⬢⬡

: : PRIZES : :

No 'along' would be complete without an incentive to spur us on.  As I've already seen in the along threads and using the #CHBAL tag, just the companionship and the cheers of our fellow crafters is all we really need to get our blankets moving, but it can't hurt to have a little extra push can it?

So I've been getting together a little prize for our winner to enjoy.  So far I've got:

Two balls of the gorgeously soft and squishy King Cole Cotton Soft
A cute fragranced padded heart hanger
A little strawberry needle keeper to hang on your scissors and keep those safe too - handmade by moi!
A set of six sweet retro buttons
I'll be throwing a couple of other small things in too along with a free Cherry Heart pattern of the winners choice.

And...

The four runners up will also be able to choose a Cherry Heart Pattern to receive.

Exciting eh?

To Win...

1.  Post a picture of your blanket progress in the Ravelry thread:

2.  Tell us how much progress you made.

(Maybe you finished the whole blanket, maybe you made 5 more squares or got half-way through your rows.)

3.  Vote for your favourite.

The blanket with the most 'love' on Ravelry will win.  So have a look through the thread, choose your favourites and squish the 'love' button on the ones you like best.

The Rules...

Only entry per blanket.
So if you are working on two blankets, you can do two posts.  But please don't post the same blanket more than once.  Thank you!

Remember to post before the thread is locked down.
(I'll close the thread on 31st March at 10pm UK time)

I'll remind you again closer to the closing date, so that you can work right up to the wire if you want to!

Good luck and I'll be so looking forward to seeing all your wonderful work.

  6. I love that bobble border thank you so much for the pattern. I have been quietly following the CHBAL and am making a blanket using squares from the 200 crochet blocks by Jan Eaton, I don't think I will manage to get it finished by the end of the month but I will have a good try. :)
